Therapy Clothes? Get super warm and cozy in 3 seconds flat

It’s raining outside as I type this. It’s stay-at-home-and-get-mega-super-cozy, kind of weather. And so here I am, it’s Sunday night, and I’ve gone into rain-induced reflection mode. But that’s enough ramblings. A few months ago, I came across an article on Repeller, about “therapy clothes.” The author, Haley Nahman, describes therapy clothes as outfits that feel like physical and emotional hugs, and make you feel comfortable and at ease on both a physical and emotional level.

How I transformed my birthday blues with an unexpected trip this year

I generally hate birthdays. The attention, the fuss, the expectations, uggh. Something about turning a year older, and realising I’m not exactly where I want to be in life, is just plain depressing. So this year when my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday, I suggested we skip the traditional present ceremonies and just go away somewhere instead.

Awkward over money? How being open about money can lead to a life of abundance

It is one of the most basic and fundamental needs, and it impacts even the most mundane decisions. And yet, I cringe every time I have to say the word “money.” Money. It’s just a word, but it’s become like a dirty word for me. I still can’t bring myself to say it, especially out loud. Even in situations where it’s the most appropriate word to use, I’ll say “payment” or “bank transfer” instead. But I’m far from the only one. A quick google search brings up pages and pages of links to people who feel the same as I do about money — interesting.

Did you miss shopping during lockdown? I did, but not for the reasons you may suspect

Ok, I’m going to come right out and say this: I seriously missed shopping during our 3 month stretch of lockdown here in Melbourne. It may sound shallow, superficial or just plain desperate, and perhaps it’s all three, but I missed it more than I’d care to admit. And let’s just say, that’s A LOT. But it might not be exactly what you think. Let me explain. Shopping is recreation for me. It’s a hobby, a pastime, an activity. I generally enjoy shopping alone, because shopping is time out for me; it’s just plain relaxing. I like being surrounded by pretty things. It’s an inspiration to walk through a shop and see the new styles. It’s a sensory experience too — hearing the background music, taking in the colours and designs, feeling the fabrics…

Is Corona the reset button for life we’ve been waiting for?

I was reading British Vogue over the weekend. The cover of the issue was a photograph of a simple landscape, all fields and clouds. In the bottom right hand corner of the cover was just one word, printed in plain, white font: Reset. There were no fashion models, no impossibly smooth contours, no bright colours, no flash headlines. Instead, just a moody landscape that could have been shot by anyone. The issue, obviously compiled during this Corona period, was about change. Nestled between the glossy ads and pages of “must have” items, were some very real articles about the unique times we live in, as a world, fighting off this virus.

Music therapy? Top 5 tracks to make you feel all the feels

Anyone up for some music therapy? I loved creating my pensive playlist, and my uplifting playlist, so, here’s another one. This time it’s about the feeling behind the music. All these tracks make me feel something, they move me in some way. Maybe they’ll do the same for you. I’m listening to this exact playlist on Spotify as I type this. This one is a personal playlist, because each of these songs have featured at different times in my life. Music is like that — it really does create a soundtrack for living. These tracks appeared when I needed them to, and held me through times I was reaching for a lifeline.

How becoming a plant whisperer during lockdown brought hope to unexpected places

It was March, autumn had well and truly set in, bringing with it bright, blustering winds and flying leaves, and heralding the start of lockdown 1.0 here in Melbourne. It was a confusing time, a time of change and uncertainty. I’ve never liked autumn — this year, though, I grew to despise it. Because along with the winds came turbulent change, and with the cool air and gloomy skies floated in a virus that felt scary and unpredictable, that seemed to grow in momentum with each passing day. I did everything I could to stay in control, to feel grounded amidst the change. Control is an illusion at the best of times, but this wasn’t the best of times, it was far from it, in fact. And I felt it.

Top 5 uplifting songs to make you feel good

I had a lot of fun creating my pensive playlist here on the blog, so here is it’s counterpart — The Uplifting Playlist. These tracks all manage to put me in a good mood. The thing they all have in common for me is their addictive tunes — the type that draws you in, catches your attention so that it focuses on nothing else but the music, and lifts you higher. I can listen to each of these tracks five times in a row and get more uplifted each time. They also all have backing music that makes me want to get up and dance, or, in a more likely scenario, power walk up a hill, while trying not to bop around to the music so that other people look at me weirdly. All these tracks make me happy when I listen to them. I hope they do the same for you. Have a listen, if you so wish, and let me know your thoughts.

Happiness

Here’s all the reasons why I’m ditching perfection and choosing happiness

When I’m walking under a moonlit sky, just me and the night, and the moon is a perfect sliver hovering above like a guidepost, I’m choosing happiness. And when I remember I’m just a tiny speck in the cosmos of the universe, and feel simultaneously important and insignificant, and the endless night stretches out before me like a web of darkness, I’m choosing happiness then, too. In the times I’m alone, and it’s just me against the world, I’m choosing happiness. And when I wake up to a new day, and the sun is casting shadows on the walls, I’m choosing happiness all over again.

Top 5 pensive songs to listen to when you’re just plain sad

A different kind of post today. I’ve created my own playlist to share with you. Music is a huge part of my life. It’s something that’s lifted me in my joyful times, and made me feel understood in the times I was struggling. It’s always been the soundtrack to my life. Music is a universal language, it’s a language accessible to everyone. It’s something we can all connect with. It helps us feel understood in reassuring and fundamental ways. And in a way, that alone is enough to help us feel connected to a greater whole, a bigger purpose.
