Can we just talk? I’d like to talk to you, but let’s stay behind screens

Ok, so, who’s exhausted? Depleted? Drained? Wiped out? Or all of the above? Or am I the only one? If you’re anything like me right now, you’ve probably had enough. You see, this Corona thing came along and stopped life, but life didn’t stop for it. And why should it? Life is known for marching on, and thankfully it does. Life goes on, regardless. Regardless of Corona, regardless of work, life, stress. Regardless of big battles, personal struggles and everything in between.

How discovering I’m a BRCA carrier changed my perspective on life for good

This past weekend, while we whiled away the hours during Shabbat, my husband and I sorted through one of our memory boxes filled with letters and cards. I came across a lengthy letter I wrote to him in our early days, scrawled in quick, inspired handwriting. In it, I wrote that I love writing because I feel the written word has the power to move someone, and make them think, feel or act. It’s been over six years since I wrote that letter and those words. But to this day, it still remains one of the core reasons why I love to write. Because layered between the lines, there can be messages for readers to take away with them — of hope, struggle, life and humanity.

A letter to the uninspired (yes, you)

So you’re feeling uninspired, huh? You may be wondering how I know. Well, that part’s easy. You’ve been walking from the bed to the couch, the couch to the fridge and back to the couch again. And you’ve been wrapping yourself in throw blankets like they’re going out of style. See, easy, right? What’s that you say? Something about the weather? Oh, do you mean the way the sky has opened up and poured out a year’s worth of rain, in…let me see, 3 days? Oh, yeah, there’s that. You have a point there. Lockdown and rain are never a good combination. In fact, they should be banned from hanging out together. Point taken.

Self care: why you may need to take a break from social media

Have you ever felt depressed while scrolling through Facebook? Or completely inadequate while wasting time on Instagram? Lately, I’ve been feeling a lot of both. So I took matters into my own hands, and deleted the Facebook and Instagram apps from my phone. I’ve been taking a break from social media since mid last week. My accounts are still active, but the compulsion to constantly open the apps is gone. I still have both Facebook and Instagram installed on my iPad, so my access isn’t completely removed, but I check them maybe once a day, if at all.

How wearing a mask and breathing through discomfort improved my perspective

Sometimes I sit for ages, staring at a blank screen, watching the cursor blink on and off, as words escape me. This usually happens when I’m trying to tackle something big and important, and want to do it justice, to show it in the right light. Tonight is one of those times. I pulled open my iPad, put on my official writing playlist and…waited. There are a million things I want to say. The words are in me, somewhere, but they are swimming around, jumbled. Sometimes the only way out is in.

3 reasons I don’t feel bad about giving up on my Lockdown Wardrobe Challenge

I have a new confession to make: I officially, unofficially, gave up on my Lockdown Wardrobe challenge. I was into it for a while, I really was. I took photos of my outfits, posted them on Instagram, put together about 2-3 weeks of new outfits, and blogged about my progress through it all. And it was fun — for a while. Well, kind of fun, at least. And then one day I realised something: it was my challenge, I made the rules, so I could also go ahead and be the one to break them. I could do whatever the hell I wanted with that challenge of mine. And yes, even if that meant giving up on it.

Have you had 20 seconds of insane courage? Why being courageous is much more than it seems

We’ve all been there, right? You know those times when things just feel…impossible? Nothing is working out, or so it seems, and it feels like you’re walking through slush in slow motion? I’ve been there. Have you? It feels like you’re living through your own version of hell, but it’s not; it’s just life. Life can catch you in ruts that are big and wide and deep, pulling you in way over your head. You know the ones I mean, right? You’re so stuck, it feels like you’re going backwards. Backwards through that thick, heavy slush.

Little Box Of Happiness: A guide to creating your own

A Little Box Of Happiness, is, quite simply, exactly how it sounds. It’s super simple to make one of your own, by collecting a bunch of objects that make you happy, and storing them in a box. Here’s a few quick ideas: Choose a box that you love, maybe something that reflects your personality. Fill it with little things that spark joy for you in some way. Each thing should have a special place in your heart. For example, if you choose to include a journal, let it be a favourite one, and pair it with a pen you absolutely love.

Here’s how my Lockdown Wardrobe Challenge is going so far

It’s only been a week since I last posted my Lockdown Wardrobe update. And yet, this week has felt weighty in its significance. Of course, this has nothing to do with my wardrobe challenge. I seriously considered skipping this entire segment because it feels frivolous and insensitive to talk about clothes when Melbourne has officially been labelled as a state of disaster.

Finding freedom and keeping it: Why freedom runs deeper than we think

A year ago, no one would have known what the term ‘stage four restrictions’ meant. Today, everyone here in Melbourne, knows it all too well. And honestly? It sucks. From a personal perspective, I had just gotten over the whole mask-wearing saga, and I was damn proud of myself for it, too. And now, just a few days later — this. It’s starting to feel suffocating, an experience I think we all know too well.
